Simon Jenkins

FOR THE MOTIONSimon Jenkinsis a journalist and author. He writes a column twice weekly for the Guardian and weekly for the Sunday Times, as well as broadcasting for the BBC. Previously he wrote columns for the Times and the London Evening Standard, both of which newspapers he edited. His career began on Country Life magazine and continued on the Economist (political editor) and the Sunday Times (books editor). His books include, most recently, Thatcher & Sons (2006).

Jacob Weisberg

FOR THE MOTIONJacob Weisbergis the chairman and editor-in-chief of the Slate Group, a new online publishing unit from the Washington Post Company which includes Slate, Slate V and The Root. He has also been a contributing writer for the New York Times Magazine, a contributing editor of Vanity Fair and a reporter for Newsweek in London and Washington, and a weekly columnist for the Financial Times. Weisberg's most recent book, The Bush Tragedy, was published by Random House in 2008.

Widely recognized as one of the nation's leading political analysts and commentators, Kristol regularly appears on Fox News Sunday and on the Fox News Channel. He is an Op-Ed columnist for the New York Times and co-author of the bestseller, The War Over Iraq: America's Mission and Saddam's Tyranny (2003).

Karl Rove

AGAINST THE MOTIONKarl Rovea Fox News contributor, was the architect of George W. Bush's 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns, and from 2001-2007 the president's senior advisor and deputy chief of staff. Of Rove, columnist Michael Barone said "No Presidential appointee has ever had such a strong influence on politics and policy, and none is likely to do so again anytime soon." Prior to the 2000 campaign, he was the president of Karl Rove + Company, an Austin, Texas-based public affairs firm whose campaign clients included 74 candidates for governor, Senate and Congress in 24 states.
